Labels or laser-marked plates for asset tags?
Choose durable labels (polyester or vinyl with permanent adhesive, optionally laminated) for office IT, furniture and indoor equipment – cheap, fast, scannable, and easily replaced during refresh cycles. Choose laser-marked aluminium or stainless plates for machinery, outdoor assets, tools, and anything facing heat, oil, abrasion or theft risk – the mark is the metal, so it cannot peel, fade or wash off. The dividing line is environment plus asset life: over 3 years or outdoors or oily, go metal; office ulterioare use labels.
What should an asset tag carry?
Company name or logo, unique asset ID in human-readable plus QR or barcode encoding, and optionally purchase year or department code. The QR should resolve to your asset register entry (or at minimum encode the ID for scanner lookup) – a tag that cannot be looked up is a sticker, not a system. Numbering scheme first (location-asset-sequence), printing second; schemes designed after 500 tags exist are where duplicates breed.
How do batch QR serials work?
Send a list (or range) of IDs; each tag or plate gets its unique code laser-marked or printed in sequence – no manual artwork per unit.
