How does laser marking serials and QR codes work?
You send a spreadsheet or ID range; each part gets its unique serial number and matching QR code laser-marked in sequence – hundreds of unique marks in one production run with no manual artwork per piece. The QR encodes the serial (plus optionally a URL to your service page or warranty form), verified by scan-sampling during the run. Variable data is the laser’s home advantage over printing: zero setup per variant, permanent marks, phone-readable forever.
What data should the QR code carry?
Minimum: unique serial ID your register understands. Better: serial plus model plus manufacturing month-year. Best: a URL resolving to that unit’s service record (warranty status, manual, complaint form) – a technician scans a failed pump and lands on its history. Keep the encoded string short for reliable scans on small marks; long URLs need larger, higher-contrast marks. Design the lookup before the marking – codes without a register are decoration.
How do marks survive oil, heat and abrasion?
Match process to punishment: deep engraving for abrasive and high-wear zones, annealed marking for corrosion-sensitive stainless, verified contrast for oily or painted surfaces (test-scan after wiping with shop fluids, not before).
